Hi guys,
I was recently in a car accident where the other driver was intoxicated, ran a stop sign, and T-boned my car, which is now totaled. I also went to the hospital for a CT scan because my abdomen was painful and bruised. The bruise worsened daily and eventually developed into a mass. It’s now much smaller after a month, but I’m unsure what it was.
Given these circumstances, would it be worth getting a lawyer?

If the other insurance company is being difficult or unreasonable, hiring an attorney might be a good idea.
Even if they’re fair, consider getting an attorney based on what you value more. If you prefer not to handle the work yourself and want to focus on seeing doctors, an attorney can manage everything for you, though they’ll take a significant portion of your settlement.
If you want to maximize your payout and don’t mind doing some of the work yourself, you might not need an attorney.

Lawyers are usually needed if you’re seriously injured or if the insurance company is significantly delaying or treating you unfairly. Keep in mind that lawyers typically take around 1/3 of the settlement, so if you don’t have permanent injuries, you might be able to manage the claim on your own.
