I recently received an offer from Allstate for an inside sales representative position. The hourly rate they offered is $17/hr plus commission, but the Indeed job listing mentioned $17-$23/hr. Can you negotiate the hourly rate for this role?
Honestly, I don’t rely on the hourly rate at all. The real earnings come from the bonuses.

Could you explain that a bit more?

If you’re depending on the hourly rate in a sales job, you’re not really winning. Most of your income should come from commissions.
@Keagan
Can you explain how the bonus works instead of just sharing your opinion?

If they haven’t explained it to you, you should ask them. You seem to know the hourly rate but not the bonus structure?

It’s not just an opinion—it’s a fact. If you’re good at sales, your commissions will far outweigh your hourly pay.

HOE is right. I’ve done sales, and if you’re only counting on the base pay, you’re missing the point. Sales jobs are about hitting targets to earn commissions; otherwise, you might not keep the job.

If you’re not going to explain, then talk to someone else instead of me.

Good luck, man. With that attitude, you might not make it past December in this job.
@Keagan
He was just asking a question, no need for the attitude.
They generally don’t negotiate the hourly pay. The bonus system varies, and it can be quite profitable if you’re good at sales. On average, I’ve heard people making $1500-$2000 monthly in bonuses, with some top performers hitting six figures annually.
You also get extra pay for working second shifts and weekends (usually an extra 10% for each).
