I had a mini-stroke last year and I’m wondering if I can still get life insurance. Has anyone gone through the same or know what the process is like? Any info would be super helpful.
Yeah, you can still get life insurance after a stroke. It just depends on how severe it was and other factors like your health and age. I got mine, but the premium went up a bit.

Good to know! Did they ask you a lot of questions about the stroke or was it straightforward?
@Kingsley
They asked quite a bit, like when it happened, if I had any symptoms left, and what treatment I got. They might also ask for your GP report.
@Kingsley
Same here. They asked if I had any breathing issues or chest pain too. But overall, it wasn’t too bad of a process.
If you’ve had a stroke, you might also want to look into Critical Illness Cover. They’ll pay out if you have another stroke, as long as the symptoms last at least 24 hours.

Oh, interesting! I didn’t even think of that. Does it cost much more to add Critical Illness Cover?
@Kingsley
It costs a bit extra, but for me, it was worth the peace of mind. Just check your policy details to see what exactly is covered.
I had a family history of strokes and still got life insurance. They just needed details about my family’s medical history. If you’re in decent health otherwise, you should be fine.

That’s good to hear. Did they increase your premium because of the family history?
@Kingsley
Yeah, it went up a little, but not as much as I thought it would. They just want to assess your risk level based on the family’s medical conditions.
Just make sure to be honest in your application about the stroke. If you leave anything out, it might make it harder for your family to claim later.

Definitely. I’ll make sure to mention everything. I guess it’s better to be upfront than risk issues later.
Also, don’t forget you can get income protection insurance if you’ve had a stroke. It’ll help if you can’t work due to illness or injury.

Wait, what’s income protection? Is that different from life insurance?
@Kingsley
Yeah, it’s different. It pays out monthly if you can’t work because of illness or injury. Life insurance is more for your family after you pass away.
