Can You Get Car Insurance Without a License?

hey, i’m looking to insure a car but don’t have a driver’s license. anyone know of options for getting insurance with a state id? not planning to drive, just need insurance coverage for my car while it’s in storage.

it’s definitely possible! some companies accept a state id instead of a driver’s license, but it can be more expensive. i’d suggest trying regional companies like Foremost or Acceptance. they tend to be more flexible.

@Aris
thanks! i’ll look into Foremost and Acceptance. do they offer storage-only insurance?

yes, they do. storage insurance, or parked car insurance, is usually comprehensive-only, so it’s cheaper. make sure to check your state’s requirements though, since some states require liability coverage if your car is registered.

@Bo
good tip about joining someone else’s policy! i did that when i was between licenses. you might save some money if they already have good rates.

just a heads up, some insurers can charge a bit more if you don’t have a license since they see it as higher risk. be honest about your situation though—using a fake license number could get you dropped.

@Remi
good to know, i’ll definitely be honest about my situation. any idea how much more expensive it might be?

depends on the company and your state. i saw about a 20% increase, but it varies. working with an independent agent might help you compare better.

if you don’t plan to drive, just go with comprehensive-only (storage insurance). it’ll cover you for damage while parked and is generally cheaper. some states are strict about registered cars needing liability, though.
