Can Individual STD Plans Cover Maternity Leave?

Hallo…

I work for a small company that doesn’t offer short-term disability (STD), and while I’m not pregnant right now, I want to be prepared and sign up for an individual STD policy just in case. I figured it would cover part of my pay if I decide to have another baby in the future.
But when I talked to an advisor, he said that most individual STD plans don’t cover maternity leave since pregnancy isn’t seen as an illness, and only group plans through companies do. So, is there really no way to get an individual STD policy that would cover at least part of my pay for a few weeks after giving birth? I’m not expecting full pay or anything, just a bit of support during that time.
It feels weird that none of the individual plans would cover this. I can’t be the only one in this situation, right?

Your advise on this will be greatly appreciated

Maternity leave can be covered by individual short-term disability (STD) insurance, albeit this varies depending on the policy. In general, if you are unable to work because of pregnancy or delivery, :anguished:

Pregnancy, delivery, and recuperation period are covered by the majority of STD coverage. :unamused:This might involve issues with the actual delivery of the kid, the postpartum recuperation time, and pregnancy difficulties.

During the covered period, most STD insurance pay a portion of your salary, usually between 60 and 70 percent.

The coverage’s  duration may differ. For instance, a typical birth is covered by many insurance for six weeks, and a C-section2 for eight weeks.

It’s critical to thoroughly read the terms of any STD coverage to determine what is and isn’t covered. It might be beneficial to get in touch with your insurance company directly if you have any particular queries concerning your coverage.
