Best pet insurance in Connecticut? Any recommendations?

I’ve been looking at pet insurance plans here in Connecticut, and there are so many options! I’ve seen companies like Spot, Lemonade, and Embrace mentioned a lot. What are you all using? Any recommendations on which plans offer good coverage for both accidents and wellness? Also, is it true that costs in places like Bridgeport are higher than other metro areas?

I’ve been using Spot for a couple of years now. I like that they offer both accident-only and accident and illness plans. It’s been really helpful for covering things like dental procedures and wellness add-ons, though they cost extra. In terms of pricing, yeah, I’ve noticed some fluctuations based on location. Bridgeport is slightly pricier than some areas, but it’s not the worst!

That sounds good. I was actually looking at their Platinum Preventive Care package. Do you think it’s worth the extra cost?

I went with the Gold package, which gives $250 in coverage. I think the Platinum one covers up to $450, so if your pet needs more routine care, it could be worth it. For me, the Gold package has been enough so far.

I just signed up for Lemonade and it’s been pretty budget-friendly. It’s one of the cheaper options, especially for younger pets. My 2-year-old cat’s plan is only about $14.74 a month, which is hard to beat. They also have customization options, so you can adjust coverage and deductibles to fit your budget.

Wow, that’s a really good price! I’ve been considering Lemonade for my dog, who’s a bit older. Do you know if it’s still affordable for older pets?

It does go up a bit with age. For older pets, like 6 years and up, the monthly premium increases, especially if you want higher coverage limits. But compared to other companies, it’s still pretty reasonable.

I’ve been using Embrace, and I like how they offer no annual coverage limit if you want to go that route. I have a $5,000 limit for my dog, and it costs about $39.56 a month. It’s more on the expensive side, but they cover a wide range of treatments, and their customer service has been top-notch.

That sounds like a solid option, especially with no annual limits. Does Embrace cover wellness care, or do you have to add that on?

Wellness care is an add-on, but they do have good coverage for things like vaccinations and check-ups if you choose to include it. I didn’t add it because I just needed the accident and illness plan, but it’s definitely worth considering if your pet needs frequent vet visits.

For anyone with exotic pets, I’d recommend checking out Nationwide. They cover birds, reptiles, and even goats, which is pretty rare for most insurance companies. I’ve got my parrot insured with them, and it’s been a smooth experience so far. They also offer accident and illness coverage for dogs and cats, but their exotic coverage is what sold me.

@Noah
That’s awesome! I’ve been struggling to find insurance for my ferret. Does Nationwide charge more for exotic pets, or is it around the same as dogs and cats?

It’s a little higher than dogs and cats, but not by much. I pay around $25 a month for my parrot, so it’s still pretty affordable compared to the vet bills I’d have without insurance.

I’ve been comparing rates and noticed that Bridgeport is more expensive than other areas. I got quotes for my small dog, and it was about $18.51 per month with a $5,000 coverage limit. That’s still cheaper than places like New York or Seattle, though!

@Nori
Yeah, I’ve been seeing that too. I’m in Hartford, and the rates seem a bit lower here. I guess location really makes a difference. Did you go with a plan that includes wellness care, or just accident and illness?

@Vale
I went with accident and illness for now, but I’m thinking about adding wellness care later. The basic plan covers most of what I need, though!
