Steer clear of Metlife Pet Insurance at all costs.
They have been incredibly unhelpful with my claim; they are asking for documents that I have already sent in, and despite their repeated promises, they have not contacted my veterinarian.
I have called them four times on this issue, and nothing has changed.
Instead of paying them each month for the coverage, you would be better off setting aside the money for a pet emergency.
Please think about contributing your experience to MetLife’s trustpilot.com area. I assess pet insurance companies based on the substance and quantity of one-star ratings rather than the quantity of five-star reviews. In general, the 1-star dissatisfaction percentage for all pet insurers I looked at was about 12%. We are also seriously exploring self-insuring instead of charging premiums, copays, deductibles, and allowing for the costs of all the services that are not covered over a 15-year period, given the pre-Obamacare pitfalls that still very much exist in pet insurance. A potential compromise would be to maintain a high deductible, lower percentage coverage plan while also contributing $x/mo to a HYSA. That still amounts to $x,000 in premiums and copays annually in coming years.
I completely agree. I have had them for about two to three months, and while things were going well at first, they have been processing the last two claims for three weeks even though they said they would file them in five to ten business days. I have given them all the information they requested, but they keep avoiding me about reimbursement, and their customer service is very dishonest.
I have been waiting for a basic UTI claim for the past three months. They just denied it, citing my cat’s six-month-old urinary obstruction which was free of illness. They are just amazing.
