Hi, I’m wondering if any auto insurance companies in NYC would take on a driver without an insurance history. I got my license 3 years ago and was driving under my parents’ insurance, but we only recently added me as a driver. I’m planning to lease a new vehicle and want to insure it under my name. Are there companies that would be willing to cover someone like me? I’m a 25-year-old male.
Many companies will insure you, but it might be expensive. Your best bet is to call an independent agent in your area and get a few quotes.
In NY, you’re probably looking at $400+ per month for a lease.
And honestly, no one’s going to believe the ‘forgot to add’ part—it’s more likely your parents didn’t want their premiums to jump when you got your license.
@Keir
I’m okay with that. I just need recommendations for companies that might insure me.
You shouldn’t have trouble finding a company to insure you, but the cost might be high. Just be prepared for that.

Do you have suggestions on which companies I should try?
@Charlie
It’s best to go through an independent agent. They can shop around for you, compare rates, and find the best coverage based on your needs. Some companies might not even be available directly online, but agents can still access them.
