Auto Insurance: Farmer's vs. Geico

Hi everyone,

I’ve been with Farmers Insurance for three years, but my rate just increased by $75 this term despite having no claims. Farmers is now asking for $875 at renewal.

Here are the quotes I’ve received from other companies for the same coverage:

  • Progressive: $679
  • Geico: $479

Is Farmers worth the higher cost compared to Progressive and Geico? I’m leaning towards switching to Geico but have some concerns based on their reputation.

Edit: I’ve also gotten quotes from Allstate, Amica, American Family, Travelers, and Liberty Mutual, but they were either the same or higher than Farmers.

We also have term life, homeowners (for a rental property), and renters insurance with Farmers, but we’re not planning to move those policies.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Consider reaching out to an independent agent to have more options for comparison. This is particularly beneficial if you have a homeowner’s or renter’s policy, as you might be eligible for attractive discounts by bundling multiple policies with the same company.

I had a similar issue with Farmers. My rate jumped $60 despite no claims, and I was about to switch too. I found Geico was way cheaper—saved me $100+! I get the worries about their rep, but honestly, I’ve been with them for a year now and had zero issues. Progressive was also a good option, but Geico was the cheapest for me.

Sometimes switching can save a lot.
