So, I was reading about how cops can catch uninsured drivers even without pulling them over. It’s kinda wild. They’ve got these automatic license plate recognition systems now… anyone know more about this or had experience?
Yeah, they’ve got those ALPR cameras. My cousin said they just scan your plate and pull up your info. Scary how easy it is for them now.

Wait, ALPR? What does that stand for?
@Wyatt
Automatic License Plate Recognition. It’s basically a system that scans your plate and pulls up your insurance info.
@Wyatt
Ah, got it. Thanks! That’s kinda creepy, not gonna lie.
They also set up checkpoints sometimes, especially on busy holidays. Just roll through and they ask for your license and insurance. Seen it a few times around here.

Yeah, those checkpoints freak me out. Even if I’ve got everything legit, it still makes me nervous lol.

Same. It’s like, even when you’ve got nothing to hide, you’re sweating a little .
In Texas, they started using those systems a while back. My insurance guy said the uninsured driver rate dropped big time. Guess it works, but still feels like we’re living in the future.

Wow, I didn’t know it was that effective. Dropped by how much?

From 22% to 11% in six years. Crazy, right?
IDK about the ALPR stuff, but in my state, insurance companies have to send your info to a database that cops can access. It’s just another way they can check if you’re covered.

Yep, saw that too. So basically, even if you don’t get pulled over, they can still know. No way out of it.
FYI, if you get caught without insurance, the penalties are harsh. Fines, maybe even getting your car impounded. Not worth it.

For real, in my state, the fine starts at like $500. Not to mention the hike in insurance rates after.
