Anyone else having trouble getting an online car insurance quote?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice. I wanted to shop around for new car insurance quotes. I’ve been with State Farm for 2.5 years and was with Progressive before that. I switched to State Farm because when I financed a 2018 Audi A4, my Progressive rate went up a lot.

The problem now is that every time I try to get an online quote, it just tells me they can’t give a quote due to underwriting guidelines. No points on my license, no recent accidents, and my last ticket (for no seatbelt) was two years ago.

I’m female, 30, have good credit, and a full-time job. I did move to a new town recently where my car is now garaged. It’s a gentrified area, and I’m just renting an apartment.

Would seeing an insurance broker in person help here? It feels odd to get denied online like this. Thanks for any insights!

It might be due to your car model, but sometimes online systems just don’t work for every case. Seeing a broker could definitely help.

I’ve heard brokers can work around these online restrictions, especially with more specific underwriting requirements.

@Teo
Yeah, it’s kind of like when they check your insurance history. They look at credit and past insurance records too, which may flag something.

The insurance industry is pretty tight right now, and a lot of companies are taking on fewer new clients. An independent agent could be your best bet since they can look up options across multiple providers for you.

@Faithjones
It’s true that rates are up across the board. Talking to an independent agent lets you compare options that might not be available directly to the public.

I’d suggest checking with a broker since it’s sometimes just a matter of the online system missing certain info.

From my experience, brokers can often help with this kind of situation where online tools can’t give a quote.

Thanks for all the advice! I got a letter saying the decline was related to my car model.

Sounds like it’s probably your car model causing the issue. Seeing a broker should help you find better options. Some companies avoid certain models or types.

Were you able to get any coverage yet?

I think I have the same issue too! Glad you posted this, it was driving me nuts.

@Sage
I ended up talking to a friend in insurance who recommended going in person. I actually traded in my Audi for a hybrid CRV, which dropped my insurance by about $800 a year. Not the answer I hoped for, but it worked out for me.

Sometimes the vehicle type or age could be the issue, especially for higher-end models.

Ever find a solution? I have an older model that’s pretty cheap, and the insurance quote came out super high for the basic coverage. It’s wild!

@Emlyn
My friend in insurance recommended talking to an agent in person since online quotes might not work for every case. I ended up switching cars and got a cheaper premium that way.

Definitely think an in-person visit to a broker would help. Sometimes it’s easier to explain things face-to-face.

Yep, a face-to-face can sometimes clear up these underwriting issues. Insurance agents can often work around what the online systems can’t handle.

I drive a 2018 RS5, and I keep running into the same issue with online quotes. It’s annoying since I prefer picking my coverage online.
