Agent says we can’t switch insurance companies due to our 25-year-old metal roof—is this legit?

Hi all
We’ve been with our insurance agency for a long time, but our agent recently retired, and we’ve been dealing with a new one. Our homeowners and auto insurance are bundled, but our premium went up by 25% when it renewed last time.

I asked the new agent to get quotes from other companies to see if we could find a better rate. She came back with an auto quote from one company and a homeowners quote from another, so we wouldn’t get a multi-policy discount. This actually ended up being more expensive than what we’re currently paying.

When I inquired about it, the agent told me that no companies are willing to cover our 25-year-old metal roof. She mentioned that because it’s so old, it’s hard to find coverage. I thought metal roofs were supposed to last longer, and I’m concerned that this might be an excuse.

Does anyone have experience with this? Should I be looking for a more experienced agent, or is it really true that no companies will cover a roof this old in Pennsylvania?
