Hey everyone! I recently signed up for life insurance with AAA since I already have my car and home insurance with them and have been happy so far. The sign-up process over the phone was simple, and the agent even mentioned I probably wouldn’t need a physical exam due to my age.
Then, I got a call saying someone needs to come to my place for a physical (blood draw, weight check, etc.). Now another company is contacting me for a medical release to get my records from the last three years at Kaiser.
Is this normal? It’s feeling a bit invasive, and I wasn’t expecting it since the agent didn’t mention these extra steps. I work in a job where I see things go wrong a lot, so I’m extra cautious about scams. Any advice? Thanks in advance!
Totally normal! While many insurers aim to simplify the process, sometimes they need extra info based on your prescription history or past medical visits. This helps underwriters assess everything accurately. Kaiser, for example, has specific forms they need signed before releasing any medical info. The agent probably assumed you’d clear it without extra steps. It’s unfortunate, but agents sometimes skip mentioning these details upfront.
Life insurance is a bit different from car or home insurance and is a key part of financial planning. I’d recommend finding a financial advisor who can meet with you in person, not just over the phone. They can help you figure out exactly what coverage you need. The phone agents are just trying to get a quick sale and might not have your full financial picture in mind.

I agree with this. Maybe get this policy for now, but consider sitting down with a financial advisor for a long-term plan and switch if needed.
Right, and most financial advisors don’t charge for life insurance planning.
I had a similar experience with AAA Life—initially, they advertised a no-exam option, but they ended up asking for my full medical records through a third-party service, even though I’m healthy. For a $200k policy, it seemed over the top, so I went with another provider.
