I recently had an issue with my car after taking it to a repair shop for a routine oil change. Unfortunately, the repair shop was negligent and ended up causing damage to my car. I’m wondering if my comprehensive auto insurance will cover the cost of repairing this damage.
@ClaimantCameron Your insurance won’t. Theirs will if you can prove their negligence.
It won’t only what you need to is to call your lawyer. I only go to the dealer for my oil changes. Going to a 3rd party they will be screw up your car - void any warranty. @ClaimantCameron Great advice too @Grace12
@Grace12 is right. Comprehensive typically covers damage from unrelated events (fire, theft, vandalism) not mistakes by a repair shop.
But here’s a ray of hope! Many repair shops carry garage keeper’s liability insurance exactly for situations like this. They’d be responsible for covering the damage they caused.
@Molly12 point about lawyers is understandable but reaching out to the repair shop first might be a good move. Explain the situation and see if their insurance will cover the repairs. If they deny responsibility, then a lawyer might be the next step.
In the meantime, document everything! Keep receipts, photos of the damage and any communication you have with the repair shop. This will be crucial if things get messy.
