Why is my USAA claims adjuster not responding to me?

Has anyone else had problems with claims? My car was totaled in a 5-car crash last week, but thankfully, I wasn’t hurt. USAA already sent me a settlement, but it’s less than what I’m finding for similar cars. I’ve asked for more, but it’s been a week, and I haven’t heard from my claims adjuster since Thursday morning. I’m getting really frustrated because the rental car they provided must be returned by Thursday. After that, I’ll have to rely on my husband to drive me to work, which will cost us more. I’m dealing with the financial mess caused by a reckless driver who hit me, and I don’t feel like anyone is holding them accountable. The car I lost was paid off and could’ve lasted a lot longer. Now, I’m going to be stuck with monthly car payments. This whole situation is stressful, and I just want answers.

A week isn’t that long to wait. Why are you rushing?

Did you read my post? This is time-sensitive. I need to get a new car soon, and my rental car has to be returned by Thursday. I drive an hour to work each way. If I don’t hear back soon, I’ll be paying extra for another rental or taking Ubers because of a driver who won’t take responsibility. I just want some communication from USAA.

Are you comparing the actual sale prices or just the asking prices? The amount you’re being offered might be closer to what actual cars in your area are selling for, not just the advertised prices.

I haven’t found exact matches with sold prices, but I’ve found similar cars with VINs and pricing. I know they usually offer a lower initial amount, but I just want a response. I’ll accept the offer if they don’t want to increase it, but at least tell me something.

@Kase
I’ve never had an issue with USAA or other companies giving lowball offers. In my case, the initial offers were fair, and I didn’t even feel the need to negotiate.

Well, I’ve heard that USAA uses software that sometimes gives lower offers. One state even sued them over it. For me, it feels like a low offer because I can’t find anything comparable for the same price.

@Kase
USAA is only required to offer the actual cash value, not replacement cost. It sounds like you’re looking for a replacement cost, which might not be the same.

Got it. How long did the process take for you?

@Kase
Mine took about 4 to 5 days.

That’s reassuring to hear. Hopefully, I’ll get a response soon. I don’t want to drag this out. I just need an answer.

Have you used email or the CCOM feature? It can take a little time for them to review comparable prices.

Yes, I’ve emailed, called, and used the app to message them. I also sent them VINs for similar cars with prices, but still no response.

A week? That’s not too bad. Maybe give them more time. Do you really think they can get back to everyone instantly?

Yes, I’m frustrated because time is running out. I need a new car, and my rental car is due back Thursday. If I don’t hear back soon, I’ll be paying more for a rental or Uber. I just want some acknowledgment from them that they’re working on it.

I’m okay with waiting, but the very least they can do is reply and tell me they’re looking into it. I haven’t heard anything in three business days.

I had to buy a car myself when I got rear-ended. Insurance doesn’t always give the best offer, but I ended up negotiating after I had already bought a car. It took about 3 months to settle, but in the end, it worked out.

@Beryl
3 months? That sounds like a long wait! I really hope I get a response soon. I’ve already found a dealer willing to work with me, so I can put some money down now and more once the insurance comes through. But I really want this to be settled soon.

Left me on read.

I’ve been with USAA for 15 years, and I’ve never had any issues. I had a roof claim and a couple of auto claims. The process was usually pretty quick, within 2 to 3 days. However, I will say you probably won’t get the highest offer, but that’s just how insurance works.
