Hey everyone, I just got a quote of about $550 for a crown with my insurance covering part of it. Is that normal?
I’d appreciate any recommendations for more affordable dentists if you have some. Also, do you have any tips on negotiating or getting estimates from other practices?
Wow, I was quoted $2,300 for a crown on my molar, paying cash. $550 is a great deal if your insurance covers that much! Dental insurance feels like such a scam sometimes.

You could probably fly to Thailand, get the dental work done, and still save money!

It depends on the tooth. Molars usually cost the most. I’ve had three crowns, and $550 with insurance sounds normal. I paid between $300 and $600 each time.
If you haven’t had a crown before, it’s more complicated than just getting a filling, which is why it costs so much. $550 for a crown is actually a good deal. You could ask your dentist about a payment plan—they might let you pay it off over a few months.
