Who else has left USAA and what worked better for you?

I’ve noticed a lot of people talking about leaving. I had a really bad experience with USAA recently and I’m thinking of switching too. Haven’t found anything cheaper yet though. What companies have you tried and liked after leaving?

I switched to Progressive and saved 50% on my car insurance.

Same here. I started with GEICO, which is one of USAA’s biggest competitors, but then moved to Progressive after a few years and saved even more.

I saved 64%. USAA’s rates were just way too high.

I recently switched to Progressive too. Saved 60% compared to USAA for the same coverage. It was tough to leave, but the savings were too good to pass up.

We had a 4-car policy with USAA costing $1900. Switched to Progressive for $560 for six months. Their base liability coverage is even better. Can’t believe I waited this long to switch.

@GraceEvans
I know what you mean! I was with USAA since 1978 and never compared rates until my premiums skyrocketed for no reason.

Not everyone is leaving. Some people just don’t realize the grass isn’t always greener. A lower price might sound good now, but if you ever need to file a claim, that’s when USAA’s value becomes clear.

@Fay
I had a terrible experience with their claims process. I still bank with them for now, but I won’t ever use their insurance again.

I’ve had a great experience with State Farm. If you don’t mind me asking, what happened with USAA?

I moved into a new house with some plumbing and electrical issues and asked USAA if my policy could help cover the repairs. They said no, which I expected, so I paid for everything out of pocket. Then they canceled my policy with no warning. I only found out through a letter after everything was already fixed.

@Jensen
That sounds awful. Unfortunately, it seems like USAA staff don’t handle these cases well. They often just let the system do its thing without explaining what’s going on. I’ve heard similar stories where they didn’t follow up properly.

@Brady
Yeah, it’s made me lose trust. If they handle a minor situation like this poorly, I’m not sure I’d want to rely on them during an emergency.

I get it. Employees often don’t take the time to follow up unless it’s absolutely necessary. Sorry you had to deal with that.

@Jensen
Small claims aren’t worth filing. Insurance is really only for big losses.

@Jensen
I switched to State Farm too, but no homeowner’s policy would cover those kinds of repairs unless they were from an accident. Even asking about something like that can make you seem like a risk to insurers.

@Caden
I didn’t expect them to cover it. It’s just the cancellation without any warning that felt so unfair.

They likely saw it as a risk for future claims. Homes with existing issues tend to have more problems later on, so you might’ve been flagged.

@Jensen
What reason did they give in the cancellation letter? They have to tell you why.

I’m debating whether to file a claim on my roof next hailstorm. Everyone around me has had theirs replaced, but I’m nervous about what it’ll do to my premiums.
