What exactly does pet insurance cover... is it worth it?

I’ve been looking into pet insurance, but I’m not totally clear on what’s actually covered. Is it worth getting? Do they cover stuff like surgery and meds? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Yep, most policies cover big things like surgery and hospital stays if your pet has an accident or gets sick. Meds too, as long as they’re prescribed. I got it for my dog, and it’s been worth it so far!

Checkups usually fall under wellness plans, which are add-ons. Same with dental. I added a wellness plan for routine stuff like vaccinations.

I have an accident-only plan. It’s cheaper, but it only covers emergencies like if my cat gets injured or swallows something. No coverage for illness, though.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about upgrading too, especially now that my cat is getting older.

I’ve got a comprehensive plan with ASPCA. It covers accidents, illnesses, and even some behavioral therapy for my dog. It’s a bit pricey, but I’d rather have the peace of mind.

Behavioral therapy? Didn’t know that was a thing! Does it cover stuff like anxiety?

Yup! If your vet recommends it, they’ll cover treatments for anxiety or aggressive behavior. Pretty cool, right?

Just make sure you know what’s not covered. Pre-existing conditions, for example, won’t be covered. So, if your pet already has a condition, the insurance won’t help with that.

Yeah, that’s a big one! I got insurance for my dog early to avoid issues with pre-existing conditions.

I think pet insurance is worth it, especially for unexpected stuff. I had an emergency with my dog, and the bill was over $1,000. Insurance saved me big time.

Wow, that’s a lot! Sounds like it could really save you when something serious happens.
