Hello everyone, I wanted to know if our dog could be insured by two different companies. We are currently debating between Furkin and Spot, and we are thinking about purchasing two of them so they can each handle a few mishaps.
Is there anyone here with two pet insurance policies? I need your guidance.
I hope someone has a solid answer to this interesting subject. I simply presume that they have access to all of the information. We recently moved from Trupanion to Furkin in order to save money, and we later discovered that Trupanion also owns Furkin. Furkin was established as a more affordable option. They are all-knowing, lol.
I have given it some thought, but the issue is that certain insurance companies will not honor a claim if the pet is covered by another policy. The entire contract would need to be read, but it is typically not available to you until after you sign up. Haha. Furthermore, to the best of my knowledge, no one else has gathered the data elsewhere.I am aware that you cannot submit the same claim to both insurance and double dip. However, it is really ambiguous and varies insurer to insurer if I want to have two plans and submit separate claims on each. They do not make it simple to figure out, though, because I believe they do not want you to do this. But I have thought about hedging my bets this way. But it would require a lot of leg work that I have not done yet and also I do not want to jeopardize my coverage and be cancelled for doing something against the policy so Iām a little anxious about it.
Alright, fair enough, that is a problem since, for some reason, I did not think insurance could share information with other providers. Still, I appreciate you sharing.
Although it is conceivable given the status of Lexis Nexis and other data sharing platforms, I am not positive if they share information. I believe they are not making much of an effort because it is probably such a minor issue for them, but it does not mean they will not find out. Moreover, it can be considered insurance fraud, which is an entirely different matter that you should avoid dealing with. Later, after I have gotten my Trupanion policy, I will sit down and update you if I come across a double coverage clause. Since my investigative mind now demands to know, haha.
This is what the Furkin policy paper states, our coverage will be regarded as excess insurance if you already have insurance on pets that are specifically mentioned. With the exception of any additional amount payable over and beyond such other insurance and any contribution that We are required by law to make, We will not pay claims for which You are entitled to recovery under any other insurance.
