I was robbed, beaten, and shot while staying at my mom’s house. I asked her to file a claim with her homeowners insurance for personal injury, but they’re saying they can’t help. I’m trying to figure out what to do next. Does anyone know if homeowners insurance covers something like this, or if I should be talking to a lawyer?
Homeowners insurance doesn’t usually cover criminal acts like robbery or assault unless there’s evidence the property itself was unsafe or there was negligence. You might want to consult a personal injury lawyer to see if there’s another angle.
@Avery
Yeah, they’ll look at things like whether the property had security issues or if your mom failed to warn you about dangers.
@Avery
Agreed. A lawyer can also help figure out if there’s any other liability or if the insurance company is overlooking something.
Unfortunately, just being injured on someone else’s property doesn’t automatically mean the homeowner or their insurance is responsible. It depends on whether there was negligence involved.

Exactly. If there’s no proof of negligence, the insurance company likely won’t pay. Definitely worth talking to an attorney though.
I’d recommend setting up a free consultation with a personal injury lawyer. They can tell you if you have a case and help you figure out your next steps.

Agreed. Most lawyers in this field won’t charge you unless you win, so it’s worth reaching out.
If the insurance isn’t helping, a lawyer might be able to push them to reconsider. Sometimes they just need the right legal pressure.
Sorry this happened to you. Definitely consult a lawyer to get clarity on what your options are. Hope you’re doing okay.
