I recently got into a car accident, and my Allstate rental coverage is $30 a day. When I tried booking through the app, every car is over that amount, so I’d have to pay extra. Has anyone else experienced this? I thought it would cover the full cost of a basic rental without me having to pay out of pocket.
Have your Allstate adjuster arrange the rental directly – they can usually do it quickly through their system. Enterprise has discounted rates for Allstate customers. If you’re in a high-cost area, though, there might not be rentals under $30, meaning you’d cover a bit out of pocket, but the rental coverage should handle most of it.
With Allstate, the contracted rate for an entry-level car with Enterprise is usually about $27.79, so with tax, it might go just over $30.
Allstate partners with Enterprise, so they can often reduce out-of-pocket costs. When you bought the policy, $30/day was likely enough, but with rising prices and inflation, consider bumping it to at least $50/day for future coverage.
I got rear-ended in 2021, and my rental coverage was $30/day for up to 90 days. They covered everything since the other driver’s insurance reimbursed them. If you weren’t at fault, the daily cap may not matter. Either way, going through Allstate is probably easier and cheaper, especially if it’s a long-term rental.
It also depends on the car type. $30/day should cover a basic sedan like a Toyota Corolla. What kind of car are you trying to rent?
