Hey everyone, unfortunately, my engine just blew up in my car, and it wasn’t due to anything I did wrong. Does anyone know if my insurance will cover the cost of replacing my car in this situation?
Unfortunately, standard car insurance policies typically don’t cover mechanical breakdowns that aren’t a result of a covered accident. Blowing up an engine isn’t covered by liability, collision, or comprehensive insurance.
New cars usually come with warranties that cover engine failures unless they’re caused by neglect or improper maintenance, such as not maintaining oil levels or skipping regular oil changes.
However, you may have the option to purchase an extended warranty either aftermarket or from the car manufacturer, which could cover engine failures.
Hey @BeneficiaryBeth You probably won’t have coverage for a mechanical failure or malfunction in your engine unless:
- You have specialized mechanical breakdown insurance.
- The issue can be linked to a recent accident.
- The damage is included in your car’s warranty.
