My car was in a weather collision and it’s been at the shop for almost 2 months now. The initial supplemental claim for repairs said it would be close to $6,000. The repair shop is now saying it’s almost $20,000. GEICO is saying it’ll most likely be a loss based off the pictures they took and inspecting the vehicle in person. My issue is finding out (through my lender) that apparently my loan document shows no proof of me having any GAP insurance when I remember the dealership asking me if I wanted it on my policy. I even remember them discounting it. I do not have any proof that I accepted the GAP, so I now I feel like I’m completely screwed. I still owe roughly $33,000 on the vehicle and I cannot get in contact with finance at the dealership to review the documents… I don’t know what to do.
You should contact the dealership for documentation, consult a lawyer, and reach out to your state’s consumer protection agency for help.
@Bernice Please, all you need to do is request all sales and finance records from the dealership. If unresponsive, seek legal help or contact consumer protection.
For GAP insurance Legitimacy
The Advice i can give you @Bernice Contact your lender to discuss potential solutions even without GAP insurance proof.
Consider small claims court if necessary, and urge the dealership to verify their records.
On the hard, you might need to shift to GEICO on the total loss process and file a complaint if necessary.
But be organized and proactive.
It sounds like you’re facing a very challenging situation with your vehicle and potential financial complications due to the lack of GAP insurance.
This is how you will address the situation:
- Review Documents: Check your purchase documents and loan agreements for any mention of GAP insurance.
- Contact the Dealership: Keep trying to reach the finance department at the dealership, or visit in person if necessary.
- Speak with Your Lender: Request copies of all relevant paperwork from your lender to verify if GAP insurance was included.
- Legal Consultation: If you’re facing significant financial risk and can’t find proof of GAP insurance, consider consulting with a consumer rights attorney for advice.
Taking these actions can help clarify your GAP insurance status and guide your next steps.
