Just got hired but got a DUI... Will they keep me?

I just got hired at Geico and completed the training, but I got a DUI, blowing 0.09 over the limit. Will they keep me if I get a restricted license?

Edit: I’m in a field position, so I would have a company car. I’m not sure if I should tell them and see how they react, but my driving screening did clear since the suspension hasn’t taken effect yet.

Sorry to say, but you can’t drive a company vehicle after this. They check your driving record every 6 months or a year. I’d tell them, and maybe you can get a desk job, but if you don’t and they find out through the report, you’re likely out of luck.

@Dezi
The crazy part is my driving record passed—they just confirmed me. But I think I have to wait 30 days before getting a restricted license, so I’m stuck either way.

You might as well let them know now before you get let go in 6 months. Or you can take a chance and see if they still let you do the training and get a license, as that would transfer to another company. They might let you do desk work since they only ran that info the first time. But maybe don’t be foolish and drink and drive. Even though your number isn’t far above the legal limit, you really should just pay for an Uber. I make my friends do that every time we party.

I can tell you that it will get discovered, and Geico’s policy to drive a company vehicle requires a 7-year window for that kind of violation. I’d tell them and see if they’ll move you to a virtual adjuster role if you’re interested.

Innocent until proven guilty.

I’d stay until I could find something else… then give two weeks’ notice.

Can you hire a good attorney to help you out?

Do you work at Geico?

Depends on your job.

Are you supposed to drive a company vehicle or does your job involve travel? It may not look good.

If your job is on the phones and behind a desk, you might be okay.

Lesson: Don’t drink and drive! It’s dangerous and can cost lives!

Can’t they put an interlock device on the company car?
