Hey everyone, winter’s coming fast, and I’ve been thinking about how storms can totally mess with small businesses. Stuff like snow, freezing rain, and those crazy low temps can cause serious damage—pipes freezing, foot traffic slowing down, or even supply issues. I found a bunch of tips to prep your business, and they’re pretty solid. Anyone else here gearing up for winter? What’s your go-to strategy?
Totally feeling this. Last year, a storm knocked out our power for 3 days! We got a generator this year just in case. You looking into one?

Yeah, definitely thinking about it. Did you go with gas-powered? I read they need to be outside ‘cause of carbon monoxide.

Yup, gas-powered! And yeah, it’s set up outside in a ventilated area. Huge lifesaver for sure.
I just insulated my pipes—learned that the hard way after they burst one winter. Are you doing stuff like that too?

For sure. I’m also draining outdoor hose lines and turning off the water to outside valves. Lesson learned last year lol.

Nice! Don’t forget to clean gutters and check weather stripping on doors and windows. Makes a big difference.
What’s everyone doing for emergency plans? I saw FEMA has some drills you can run. Worth it?

Yeah, they’re pretty good. We practiced one for communication when phones are down. Surprisingly useful.

Didn’t know FEMA had those! Gotta check them out—sounds like a good way to prep the team.
What’s a continuity plan? I saw it mentioned here but IDK what it means exactly.

It’s like a backup plan for disasters. It covers stuff like supply chain, temp HQ, and insurance claims.

Gotcha! Sounds like something I should work on. Thanks for explaining!
Anyone using the National Weather Service’s map? I didn’t know they had one until recently. It’s super handy for storm tracking.

I use it all the time. The alerts are clutch when storms are coming in fast.

Same! Makes planning so much easier, especially for last-minute prep.
