I just got pre-approved for a USAA credit card, and I’m thinking about applying. Is it a good choice?
Also, for those who bank with USAA, would you recommend it? My car loan is through them, but I currently bank with Sound Credit Union. I’m considering switching so everything is in one place. What do you think?
I’ve been banking with USAA and using their credit card for a while. Their customer service has been great, and they’ve caught fraud on my account before I even noticed. No complaints from me.
Do your research first. USAA isn’t the company it used to be. Many other banks have better credit card options. Also, it’s risky to keep all your money in a bank without physical locations where you can talk to someone in person.
I’d recommend sticking with a credit union, like Navy Federal, or even checking out Ally for great savings rates and customer service. For credit cards, I prefer Wells Fargo’s 2% cashback card—simple and easy to use without tracking categories.
Also, keep in mind the credit provider. Visa is my go-to because it’s widely accepted and has strong fraud protection. Make sure you’re making an informed decision. Personally, I wouldn’t choose USAA, but if you’ve done your homework and it suits you, go for it.
I used to use my USAA credit card for everything, but I’ve switched to travel rewards cards now. They’re great for getting perks like business class flights and hotel upgrades.
The card is fine, but keep in mind that ‘pre-approved to apply’ doesn’t guarantee anything. They’ll still check your credit and other details before deciding. It’s just like any other credit card issuer.
I’ve gone through about 15 USAA debit cards in the past two years because of fraud issues. They seem easy to hack, and I’ve had multiple unauthorized transactions hit my account. I finally opened an account at another bank, and that solved the problem. USAA has a lot of issues they’re not addressing.
I bank with USAA and also have their credit card and insurance. Overall, it’s been a good experience. I also use a local credit union, but USAA is great for ATM withdrawals and perks like their 1.5% cashback card.
I’ve had a USAA Signature Visa for years. The 12.25% interest rate is much lower than most other cards. They’re also really good about posting payments promptly, and you get perks like rental car insurance. It’s been the best card for my needs.
USAA isn’t what it used to be. They’ve gone downhill, and they don’t seem to care about enlisted members anymore. Their quotes for insurance were high, and I’ve never been impressed. Check out other posts here for more insights.
@Toni
I’ve had USAA insurance for years. When I moved overseas, they offered a non-owner policy, which was helpful. Now that I’m moving back, their full coverage is half the price of other quotes I’ve gotten. I haven’t banked with them, though.
I use USAA for almost everything—credit card, personal loan, insurance. They’ve been decent, but their rates aren’t always the best. I opened an account with Navy Federal Credit Union recently, and their credit cards have much better rates and perks. For me, Navy Federal cards are a better option.
I’d avoid USAA if you have other options. Their service has been declining for years. Many long-time customers seem to ignore the issues because they’ve been with them forever. Do yourself a favor and look for better alternatives.
The USAA Visa Signature has some great benefits—no foreign transaction fees, 30-day rental car insurance, 90-day purchase protection, and a 1-year extended warranty. It’s one of the best cards I’ve found for travel perks, but other options like Navy Federal’s Visa Signature are also good.
