I got pre-approved to apply for a USAA credit card and I’m really thinking about it.
Also, I’m considering switching my banking to USAA since I already have a car loan with them. Right now I bank with Sound Credit Union, but I’m wondering if it’d be easier to have everything in one place.
What’s your experience with their credit cards and banking? Would you recommend it?
I bank with them and use their credit card. Their customer service has been great for me, and they’ve flagged fraud a couple of times before I even noticed. No complaints so far.
The card is fine, but just know that ‘pre-approved to apply’ doesn’t mean much. They’ll still check your credit and decide after you apply, just like any other card issuer.
Do some research before committing to USAA. They’re not the same company they used to be. Other banks might offer better credit card options, and local credit unions can be a solid choice for banking. I use Navy Federal Credit Union and Ally, and I’m happy with both.
Pay attention to the card provider too. For example, American Express has great perks but isn’t accepted everywhere. Visa is my favorite—it works almost everywhere and has strong fraud protection. Just make sure you’re choosing based on your own research.
I’ve had so many USAA debit cards replaced in the last two years because of fraud. They don’t seem to be addressing their security issues, so I’ve moved to another bank and haven’t had problems since.
I’ve been banking and using their credit card and insurance for years. Overall, I’ve had a good experience. I also keep an account with a local credit union, but USAA is convenient for ATM access and their perks. I use their 1.5% cash back credit card.
The USAA Visa Signature card has some great perks, like no foreign transaction fees, rental car insurance, purchase protection for 90 days, and a year of extended warranty. The APR is between 14.4-28.4%. The only other card I’ve seen with similar benefits is the Navy Federal Visa Signature, though its rental car insurance only lasts 15 days. Local credit unions might have similar cards but often lack the rental car insurance.
