I’m thinking about getting LANAP surgery for my gum disease, but I’m not sure if it’s covered by insurance. Does anyone know if it’s typically covered or if it’s considered cosmetic?
LANAP is usually covered by insurance if it’s for medical reasons, like treating gum disease. But if you’re doing it for cosmetic reasons, like reducing gum size, it might not be covered. Best bet is to call your insurance and ask about your specific situation.
@Colby
Thanks, I’ll definitely give them a call to check. I’m doing it mainly for gum disease treatment, so hopefully, they cover it.
I had LANAP done last year for periodontitis and my insurance covered most of it. I only had to pay a small portion out of pocket. Just make sure your dentist is in-network and ask about pre-approval.

That’s good to hear. I’ll definitely check if I need pre-approval before scheduling the procedure.
LANAP isn’t as expensive as I thought it would be. My dentist quoted me around $3,000 per quadrant, but they offered a payment plan, which made it easier to manage.

Yeah, I thought it would be pricier too. It’s about the same cost as traditional gum surgery, but recovery is so much quicker.
I had LANAP for gum disease, and it was covered by my insurance, but I had to file some paperwork myself. Definitely ask your dentist if they can help with that. It made the whole process a lot easier.
@Ari
Same here. I had to send in some extra documents to my insurance after the procedure, but they ended up covering most of it.
If your insurance doesn’t cover it, check if your dentist offers financing options. A lot of places do these days.
