Insurance says both sides are at fault, so no payout… what now?

I had an accident in Houston, Texas. I was crossing an intersection with a green light, and another car pulled out in front of me, leading to a collision. When the police arrived, the other driver also claimed they had a green light. The officers mentioned they’d check the cameras and file a report. Later, they said the cameras weren’t working, and the report didn’t carry much weight. They advised us to let our insurance companies handle it.

The other driver had a lawyer. After two months, the insurance companies decided that since there was no clear evidence, both sides are considered liable, and no one gets a payout. What should I do next? Any suggestions?

Do you have collision coverage? If so, your insurance should cover the damage to your car.

No, I only have liability.

No, I only have liability.

Then you’ll have to cover the costs yourself.

A tough lesson learned.

For anyone reading… if you don’t have collision, get a dashcam.

Sorry, I misunderstood the question earlier.

@Ren
They clearly said they don’t have collision.

Got it, thanks for pointing that out.

For future reference, get a dashcam. It’ll save you from a lot of hassle.

Seriously, a $40 investment can prevent thousands in headaches.

I bought a dashcam after seeing so many videos of people getting blamed for accidents they didn’t cause. The very next day, someone hit my car in a parking lot. The damage was minor, but still.

I’ve tried using dashcams, but the ones I had didn’t record when I needed them. They’d stopped working weeks before, so frustrating.

Yep, that’s spot on advice.

But how does that help the current situation?

It doesn’t, but it helps prevent a similar situation in the future.

@Clove
I get that, but it’s not an answer to the question. Feels like a lazy response.

“What should I do now?”

- Unfortunately, not much.

“Any advice?”

- Get a dashcam or consider collision coverage for the future.

If there’s no other solution, the only advice is to learn and prepare for next time.
