Has anyone gotten USAA to lower their auto insurance rates after an increase? They raised mine by $600 for a 6-month renewal, and I’ve been with them for almost 15 years. I really don’t want to leave, but I can’t afford an extra $100 a month. Should I just start looking elsewhere, or is there a way to get them to review my rate?
You might want to take a closer look at your coverage.
I work in insurance software, and rates are going up everywhere because costs have risen. Repairs are more expensive due to part shortages, labor costs are higher, and accidents are happening more often. Since they’re paying more on claims, they need more from customers to cover those costs.
If you’re thinking about switching, make sure you compare the same coverage levels so you get a fair comparison.
Another option is to adjust your current coverage to save money. For example, I increased my deductible from $500 to $1000, removed comprehensive from an older car, and dropped towing since I already have AAA. I also raised my liability limits, and my annual cost went down! If you’re in a good spot financially, you might be able to take on a bit more risk to lower your premiums.
I feel the same. I used to really like USAA, but their prices have gotten crazy.
If you find a good alternative, let me know. I’ll do the same.
You might leave now, but chances are you’ll be back checking USAA rates in a year or so.

Not always. I switched after USAA tripled my rates, and I haven’t even thought about going back. Plenty of other options out there.
Just move on. It’s not worth the hassle.
Start shopping around. Unless there’s an error or you qualify for new discounts, you probably won’t be able to negotiate rates.
I switched to Progressive and saved $1000 a year. USAA isn’t what it used to be. It might be time to move on.
