I started my new job today, and they told me many things that were different from what they said during the interview and in the job offer.
The position is an hour and a half away. They told me it was right here where I live, but actually, we are expected to work in a whole other city.
We have to pay for any amenities except for some random games and the meditation room. The gym is confusing because they said it’s both $25/month and also free?
The training is unpaid. They said today that all training for the license has to be done on our personal time and is not paid. They only pay for call training during work hours.
All Saturdays are required. I was told in the offer that Saturdays are not required during training and that you can change after training, but today they said all Saturdays are mandatory.
I was told there is one supervisor. Turns out there are six, and they just fired almost all of the sales team. It’s weird that there are so many supervisors and not many salespeople. This was supposed to be a sales position.
After training, you’re expected to be on calls for 7.75 hours of your shift. If you aren’t, they can fire you. During the interview, they said there’s no required call time per shift, but that’s not true.
Today we were expected to be there for 2 hours for pre-training for badges and such. We were told it was paid, but halfway through, they said today’s not paid. It gets better. When someone asked about the trainings required outside of work hours and the pay for that, they said, ‘the education is the payment, and you’ll encounter that a lot’.
So anyway, listen to people on this forum. Today I heard a bunch of conflicting information compared to what they told me when I was hired. It might not be the same for everyone, but it’s enough for me.
Oh, and they confirmed that the sales position is the same as what they do online, and there’s nothing extra to it. It could easily be a replaceable job, and I’ve seen mentions on here about layoffs and AI, and yeah, this would be an easy job to be replaced.
Edit: Like I said, this is what I experienced and how different it was from what they told me to expect. I won’t stick around and get messed around. It’s not for me. If you have a better experience, then that’s cool.
I dislike that company as much as anyone else, but this seems fishy. Some very contradictory and possibly illegal things are being mentioned.
No regional building is that far from another one, not even in the same state that far away.
This might be true, but last I heard, the gym was still free; you just had to sign a waiver.
The law says unpaid training is a big no-no. The company might be bad, but they aren’t that dumb.
Working Saturdays doesn’t surprise me. No one wants to work it, and when I joined a decade ago, they were forcing everyone to work weekends back then too. Same stuff, different day.
Why is having more supervisors bad? Usually, it’s the other way around; you can never get ahold of anyone because there aren’t enough.
On-call? What position is this because that 1000% isn’t sales or service.
I believe the badge stuff; don’t think I got paid for that either on my first day.

A major auto carrier not paying for licensing is beyond ridiculous.
Never said they weren’t paying for licensing. I said they told us that we would be doing the training for it mostly on our personal time and not getting paid for that time.
@Finley
Last week, they emailed the entire office and told them if they didn’t want to work (while a hurricane was approaching), they would have to use PTO. Yes, they retracted it quickly, but that shows the type of people in charge there. I wouldn’t put anything past them.
@Finley
So you’ve obviously misunderstood the term ‘study at home/night on your time.’ They train the material during the day; you need to study at night!
Sorry, but it sounds like you have some comprehension and communication issues.
I’m not defending them, but your post has a lot of questionable content based on those of us who have been through all of this.
For example, Saturdays are required after training, and based on performance, you can usually transfer teams. You need to be available for phone calls during your shift, not talking for a solid 7.75 hours…
All sales jobs are paid positions; they do not work on commission only. The workday is 7.75 hours, and as a sales associate, yes, you are on calls during your shift for incoming calls. Are you sure this is the right company? Not sure what location has a game room, meditation room, and gym?
@Dana
It’s not game rooms but random games everywhere. And yes, I’m sure. It is that company. I’m starting to wonder if they were hiring just temps and not actual employees based on some responses.
