How long after deposition does it take to settle a case?

So I just got through a deposition for my case, and now I’m wondering how long it takes to actually settle. I’ve heard it can vary, but does anyone have experience with how long the process takes? Kinda hoping it’s quick but not sure what to expect.

It depends on a bunch of stuff. If your case is strong and the other side knows it, they might settle faster. But if they’re not convinced or your evidence is weak, they’ll probably drag it out. My case took a few months after the deposition to settle.

@Eden
That’s good to know. Was there a lot of back-and-forth during that time?

Yeah, there was. It’s all about negotiation. They make offers, you counter, then repeat. Having a good lawyer to speed things up helps a lot.

I went through something similar. After my deposition, it still took a while because the insurance company didn’t want to pay the full amount. They kept lowballing. But my lawyer was aggressive, and we finally got them to settle a few months later. How’s your lawyer handling it?

@Darcy
My lawyer’s been good so far, but we’re still waiting for their first offer. Fingers crossed it’s not too low.

The amount you’re asking for can also affect how long it takes. Bigger settlement amounts mean they’re gonna fight harder. When I asked for a smaller amount, they were more willing to settle. If you’re asking for a lot, expect them to take their time.

@Kai
Yeah, that’s what happened with my case too. I went for a lower number just to speed things up, but if you’re patient, you could get more.

If they’re dragging it out, mediation might help. It’s basically when a neutral third party helps both sides reach an agreement. I went through mediation, and it definitely sped things up for me.

Mediation sounds like a good idea if it takes too long. Did it work out for you in the end?

@Ellison
Yeah, it did. We didn’t go to trial, and both sides agreed on a number during mediation. It saved a lot of time and stress for sure.

Make sure you check your deposition transcript too. After mine, my lawyer found some errors, and it helped us during negotiation. It’s a small thing but can make a difference in how the case goes.

Good tip. I’ll definitely go over mine once we get it. Didn’t even think about that.
