How Does GEICO’s Accident Forgiveness Actually Work?

just curious if anyone here has experience with geico’s accident forgiveness? i heard they waive the premium increase for your first accident if you’re accident-free for 5 years. has anyone used it, and was it worth it?

yup! i earned it by going 5 years accident-free. when i had my first at-fault accident, it saved me a lot on premiums. if you can qualify for the free one, definitely worth it.

thanks for the insight! did it affect any other discounts, like safe driver?

@Merritt
yup, with accident forgiveness, i kept my safe driver discount. so it’s like two discounts in one!

you can also buy accident forgiveness if you don’t qualify, but it costs extra. i ended up paying a little more for it since i drive a lot and didn’t want a premium hike if anything happened.

good to know! i’ll look into that option too.

one thing to note: it only applies to one accident per policy, not per driver. so if you have multiple drivers on your policy, you can only use it once.

interesting! that’s good info to have since i share my policy with family.

geico’s forgiveness saved me around 45% on my premium. would’ve been a big hike otherwise. other insurers like allstate and progressive offer it too, so worth checking if you shop around.

if you’re young and don’t qualify for the free one yet, keeping a clean record is the best way to go. after 5 years, you get the forgiveness and good driver discount.
