How do I cancel State Farm insurance?

I’m thinking of canceling my State Farm policy but don’t really know the best way to go about it. I heard you can do it by phone or even online, but I don’t want to mess anything up. Has anyone here done this? How did it go? Any tips?

I canceled mine over the phone. Super easy, just call your agent or 800-STATEFARM. You’ll need your policy number and some basic info like your name and date of birth. You can cancel right away or schedule it for a later date.

That sounds pretty straightforward. Did you have to provide any paperwork?

If you’re canceling auto insurance because you sold your car, you might need to show proof like a bill of sale or that you turned in your plates. Otherwise, it’s pretty simple.

I actually did mine by mail because I had some time before I needed it canceled. You just have to write a letter with your policy number, address, and the cancellation date. It took a couple of weeks, though.

@Diamant
Wow, that seems like a slower process. Did you get confirmation from them when they received your letter?

Yeah, I got a letter back confirming it was canceled. But if you’re in a rush, I’d go with the phone or online option.

Has anyone tried canceling online? I’m more of an online person and don’t like dealing with phone calls if I don’t have to, lol.

Yeah, you can totally do it online. Just log in to your State Farm account, go to the ‘My Policies’ section, and there’s an option to cancel from the dropdown. Super easy.

@Fallon
That sounds perfect! I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the heads-up!

I did mine in person because I wanted to make sure everything was squared away right then and there. Brought my policy number, contact details, and proof I sold my car. Took like 10 minutes.

FYI, no cancellation fee with State Farm, and if you’ve prepaid, you might get a prorated refund. It’s nice that they don’t hit you with extra charges for canceling early.

Good to know! I was worried there might be fees.
