Has anyone switched life insurance providers?

I’ve been thinking about switching my life insurance provider to see if I can get a better deal or more coverage. But I’m not sure if it’s worth the hassle. Has anyone here done it? Any tips on what to look out for when changing policies?

I switched a couple of years ago, and it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Just make sure you have the new policy in place before cancelling the old one so you’re not left without cover.

Yeah, that’s a big one. Don’t cancel too early! Also, check the new provider’s terms carefully, especially if your health has changed since you got your first policy.

I shopped around and found a better deal. My premiums went down because I quit smoking. If you’ve made positive health changes, it’s worth looking into a switch.

Nice! Did you have to provide a bunch of new medical info for the new policy? That’s what’s been holding me back.

@Presley
Yeah, they did ask for updated health info, but it wasn’t too bad. In the end, it was worth it for the lower premiums.

Another option is to keep your current policy and just top it up with additional coverage. Sometimes it’s easier than getting a whole new policy.

Good point! That’s what I did when I got a new mortgage. Just extended the coverage length rather than starting over with a new policy.

If you’re switching to a joint policy, make sure to compare it to having two single policies. Joint ones usually end after the first payout, so it might not be what you’re looking for if you both want long-term coverage.

@Shea
Totally agree. My partner and I switched to two single policies instead of a joint one. Now we both have cover in place even after one of us passes away.

Also, remember that switching might not always save you money. Life insurance premiums are cheaper when you’re younger, so you might end up paying more for a new policy. Make sure to crunch the numbers before making a decision.
