Garage gate damaged my car, what now?

Today, while driving into my apartment complex garage, the electric gate came down and crushed my windshield and roof. I’ve already filed an insurance claim and taken photos and videos. When I called my landlord, they blamed another car that was in front of me, saying I had to wait briefly for them to move before I drove in. However, the gate started closing on my car as I entered.

I’m not sure if the sensors were broken, but the landlord isn’t accepting responsibility. I couldn’t see the gate shutting until it hit my car. Has anyone experienced something similar? Insurance is coming tomorrow to assess the damage.

It sounds like the landlord might not have maintained the gate properly. Imagine if a car had broken down in that spot—this could have been worse! Are there any security cameras in the area? If so, try to get the footage. Also, check for paint transfer between your car and the gate as evidence.
