Friend wants me to lie to his insurance company

Due to something—possibly flooding in his neighbor’s crawlspace—my acquaintance suffered some water damage to his property. Because he didn’t take steps to lessen the original water damage (mildew), his homeowners insurance claim was rejected.

In an attempt to contest the claim or whatever, he wants me to prepare a statement to his insurance company claiming that I lent him various appliances, including fans, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers (which never happened), and I’ll sign it in front of a notary.

He’s urging me to get myself into what type of trouble?

He’s asking you to commit (really poor, honestly some of the most stupid I’ve ever heard of,) insurance fraud. Don’t do it.

Hi buddies, prudent advice from learned friend, lying to an insurance company is considered fraud and is illegal. If caught, you could face serious penalties, including fines and jail time. It’s important to be honest with insurance companies, even if it means paying more for your coverage. Being truthful and law-abiding is always the better long-term approach.

insurance scam.Insurance fraud carries a range of penalties, including probation, fines, community service, restitution, and imprisonment in county jail or state prison.

Better be a good friend.

Just to add to these comments - your friend sounds like a dumb shit. This is one of the worst thought out scams I’ve seen, and he will leave you holding the bag not if, but when he absolutely gets caught.

Time to get some better friends.
