Fraud keeps happening to my account… anyone else having this issue?

I woke up this morning to find out my account was hit again. This is the fourth time since late September.

Back in September, I got a call that looked like it was from USAA. The menus sounded legit, and they asked for security codes. I fell for it, but thankfully, they didn’t get any money that time. Since then, I’ve changed everything—passwords, PINs, cards. I only call USAA through their app now, and I use all their extra security measures.

On Monday, I got a message that a new debit card was being sent out, even though I never requested it. When I called, the rep told me it was being sent to my home address and said it was related to the fraud from earlier. Sounded fine. But today, another rep said the card was sent to Chicago. They’ve taken $603 from my account and tried other charges, which thankfully were flagged. The supervisor is looking into why the card was approved, but that doesn’t fix what’s already happened.

Has anyone else been through something like this? I’ve scanned my devices for viruses and changed all my info multiple times. I’m starting to think about switching to NFCU, but I don’t want to lose my USAA insurance discounts.

Edit: They’re still trying. There have been multiple attempts for $600, $580, $560, and $260 withdrawals.

Edit 2: Now they’ve accessed my savings account, which never even had a card tied to it, and took money from there. The reps don’t even know how that card request got approved.

Something similar happened to me. A company in Delaware forged a check on my USAA checking account. They only tried it once so far.

You might want to open new accounts. Even if you stick with USAA, having new account numbers could stop this.

I mentioned this in another post, but I’m starting to think it’s USAA reps. My husband’s card has been compromised multiple times this year.

At this point, it feels like it could be. I’ve changed my passwords so many times, but it still keeps happening.

Stop using debit cards entirely. Use credit cards for everything and pay them off each month. It’s way easier to handle fraud on a credit card than on your bank account. I’ve never had issues with my bank account because I never use my debit card, but my credit card gets hacked at least once a year. The bank always resolves it quickly.

@Ashwin
I only used my debit card once recently for a cash advance at a 5/3 Bank. Other than that, I haven’t used it at all. But now I found out they got into my account and requested a debit card for my savings account, which never had one before.
