I therefore pay for my auto insurance each month, and I figure that auto insurance firms are profitable since most people don’t file claims. However, life insurance seems to be the only type of insurance that is always guaranteed to pay out. If everyone eventually passes away, how do life insurance companies make money?

If you purchase term life insurance, you must do so annually, and the cost increases with age. Because of this, not every policy pays off.
