Hi everyone,
I am wondering if Medicare covers any part of the cost for a recliner or lift chair. Has anyone had experience with this, and what are the requirements for coverage?
Hi everyone,

I’ve looked into Medicare coverage for recliners and lift chairs, and from my experience, Medicare typically doesn’t cover these items as they are considered comfort or convenience items rather than durable medical equipment. However, if the chair is prescribed by a doctor and is considered medically necessary for mobility or to prevent a medical condition, it might be covered under Medicare Part B or through a supplemental insurance plan. It’s best to check with Medicare directly or your insurance provider for specific details and requirements. I found that getting a clear medical necessity statement from a healthcare provider can be crucial in such cases.
Only if your doctors and DME suppliers are Medicare registered will Medicare pay for your DME. Strict requirements must be met by physicians and suppliers in order to enroll in and maintain Medicare. Medicare will not reimburse your doctors or suppliers for claims they submit if they are not registered.

Lift chairs are covered under Medicare. Only stores that accept Medicare enrollment are open to you. I refused to purchase it and requested a refund. The chair is typically rented by Medicare and becomes your property after a predetermined amount of time.
