Does car insurance cover transmission?

Will my insurance pay for fixing my transmission?

Last week, I accidentally drove over something that fell from another car. I didn’t see what it was and I was in a hurry to get to work, which was only a few miles away. The car seemed okay.

Later, I noticed a weird noise, but I didn’t think much of it since the car was still driving normally. When I got to work, I checked my car and saw a leak at the front where the transmission is located. I left the car for a while to handle some urgent work matters, and when I came back to check it again, I found that my car couldn’t drive properly anymore. It made a scary noise when I tried to move it. So, I called my insurance to have it towed to a mechanic shop.

The mechanic quoted me $6000 to replace the transmission. I checked a few other places, and they gave me quotes ranging from $10,000 to $5000.

I’m really worried because I don’t have that much money to fix my car. Does anyone know if insurance covers transmission damage? Or how I can improve my chances of getting it covered? I have comprehensive coverage from Progressive, but everything I’ve read online says it might not be covered. Can anyone share their experiences or give advice on how to get insurance to cover it?

Contact your insurance provider to check if transmission damage is covered under your policy.

Hey, all I can advise here is that auto insurance policies may or may not cover transmission damage.

For example, comprehensive policies typically cover non-collision incidents like theft or vandalism but may exclude mechanical breakdowns like transmission issues.

It varies depending on the specific policy you have.

In the end you will end up spending a few dollars to repair your car transmission.

Auto insurance generally excludes transmission repair or replacement costs unless resulting from a covered event like a car accident.

Typically, it covers accidents, theft, vandalism, and natural disasters.

Mechanical breakdowns, including transmission issues, aren’t usually covered.

Some insurers offer optional coverage like mechanical breakdown insurance or extended warranties for transmission repairs.

Review your policy or consult your insurer to clarify coverage.

Most basic auto insurance policies won’t touch a mechanical breakdown like a trashed transmission even with comprehensive coverage. You might have been “in a hurry,” but driving over mystery road debris sounds like avoidable negligence. Some policies offer fancy add-ons like mechanical breakdown insurance but that’s extra you gotta pay for upfront. And even then, there might be loopholes that leave you hanging. This repair is likely on you.
