At the moment, my chihuahua is eleven years old. I have kept her since she was two years old; she was my first dog. It was not until after I had her that I learned about pet insurance. However, because I am a moron, I did not know that a wellness plan was not the same as insurance until a friend told me. Before learning all of this, I had her on the Banfield Wellness Plan for around 4 or 5 years. I am hoping someone can direct me to a reasonable priced provider because, at the very least, I know that insurance for an elderly dog is much more expensive. She has never had an injury before and is in good health and happiness. I understand the cost will be high, but I must pay the price for my ignorance.
Okay, due to her age, most insurances will not cover her. And the expense will not be justified if they do. Any preexisting issues must also be taken into consideration. even though it is possible that the limping or ear infection you mentioned were pre-existing conditions. When I enquired about transferring my 13 year old yorkie’s insurance, MetLife would only offer $2k annual coverage, which would have cost more than $100 per month. The cost was not justified.
So should I wait to ask about my dog’s medical history before taking the estimates I get from insurance websites seriously? Few people promise me anything indefinitely, are pets the best, or should I just go everywhere instead?
However, I completely understand your perspective. At this point, I fear I will have to stick to accumulating money for her in case of emergencies.
