Automobile wrecked one day after purchase

Yes, exactly one day after I purchased a new Camry, a fool failed to yield at a red light when I had the green and entered my lane; I had to veer into the left lane in order to stop, and subsequently, I was rear-ended. The cops gave me a citation and indicated I was at fault. I’m going to give my insurance a call as soon as it opens. Is there anything I should know? I hope there are no problems because I live in Texas and there is a law that allows you to get insurance on the weekend. A really bad circumstance.

If your car is wrecked one day after purchase, you usually don’t need to “buy it back.” Inform your insurance company that you want to keep the vehicle. They’ll assess its salvage value (what they’d get selling it for scrap) and deduct that amount from your payout.

The period varies from state to state, but generally speaking, you have 30 days to add a new car to a current policy.

If you had no coverage at all, you may be out of luck.

It’s best to file a claim very away; most major carriers have agents on the phone to handle them, and you can also file a claim using an app or website.

Your insurance company will decide who is at fault—the police don’t. If you can, try to locate any dash cam or video footage of the collision.
