Anyone tried the aetna fitness allowance …?

my aetna medicare plan includes an $800 reimbursement for fitness supplies and activities but the details are super unclear. it’s supposed to cover fees and supplies (like extra gym stuff, pickleball, camping gear, hiking equipment), but there’s no clear list of what counts as a ‘supply.’ anyone have any idea what they actually reimburse for? i want to get some camping items, but nobody at aetna seems to have clear answers, and it’s new this year, so even the employees don’t seem to know.

check the reimbursement form. you have to certify that what you’re buying fits your health goals. like, if you’re getting tennis shoes, make sure it lines up with what’s on your health form. they keep it vague so that what you need lines up with the info you and your healthcare providers give.

@Broderick
they stopped covering athletic shoes.

they don’t cover camping gear, hiking poles, or fishing gear either.

this is good to know … didn’t hear about this one before

they changed it so shoes aren’t covered now.

don’t expect much from them, they rejected my fitness claim even after two agents said it would be approved. now no one can tell me why it was rejected. seems like a trick to get people to sign up with them.

@Rin
if agents told you it was covered and then the claim got denied, appeal and include the dates you called.

@Rin
my form got rejected because it was the wrong one … asked them why and resubmitted.

@Rin
what exactly did they deny for you? i’m trying to get more info.

i’m also trying to figure it out. did you find any answers?

no luck, read a lot of posts here and reached out to a few people but still no response.

i got $800 reimbursed for trainer fees. you need to provide dates, costs, and get the facility to sign off.

@Devan
i think they stopped this mid-year. when did you get reimbursed? i was thinking about getting a treadmill but it seems like they made big changes.

@Rin
just got a letter saying they’re canceling the fitness program here in missouri. they covered two pairs of my shoes, though.

wow, i haven’t even used the benefit yet. thinking of getting a treadmill before the letter comes.

@GuyBolding
good idea!

you probably got reimbursed before the rules changed. they could face issues with medicare for this. no treadmill for me though.

@Rowan
just got fully reimbursed for a treadmill. i sent in the form explaining i needed it for short walks due to health. no issues.
