Anyone found the cheapest renters insurance?

Hey all, I’ve been shopping around for renters insurance and came across a few options for 2024. State Farm and Auto-Owners seem to have some of the lowest rates, but I’m curious if anyone else has found any good deals or has experience with these companies. I’m looking for coverage that won’t break the bank but also doesn’t skimp on customer service. Any recommendations?

I’m with State Farm, and I’m paying like $115 a year, which is pretty solid. Haven’t had any claims yet, so I can’t speak to that, but they’ve been easy to deal with so far.

That’s the rate I saw too, around $115. Seems like one of the better deals. Did you bundle it with anything, or is that just for renters?

@Mack
Nah, that’s just for renters. I don’t have my car insurance with them, but I hear you can get even better rates if you do the bundle thing.

Anyone tried Auto-Owners? I saw they have a good rating and it’s only $136 a year, which seems pretty decent. Thinking about switching to them, but IDK much about their customer service.

Yeah, I’m with Auto-Owners. They’ve been great for me. Had to file a claim last year, and they handled everything smoothly. Plus, $136 is a solid price for the coverage.

@Lian
Good to know! How was the claims process? Was it quick, or did it take forever?

It was pretty quick, actually. Took about a week to get everything sorted. No complaints on my end!

Anyone else with bad credit finding it harder to get affordable rates? I’m getting quoted way higher prices than the $115 or $136 you all are talking about. Is it because of my credit?

Yeah, credit can definitely impact your rate. I saw in the article that people with poor credit might pay like $225 with State Farm. It sucks, but some companies don’t take credit into account, so you might want to look around more.

@Sky
That makes sense. I didn’t realize credit was such a big factor. Thanks, I’ll check out some more options.

I’ve had good luck with Travelers. It’s a little more expensive, around $165 a year, but they’ve been really reliable. Plus, I’ve got a lot of electronics and stuff, so I feel like the extra coverage is worth it.

Is anyone bundling their renters insurance with auto? I keep hearing it’s cheaper, but I don’t know how much I’d actually save.

I’m bundling mine with Allstate, and it definitely saved me a bit. I think I’m paying like $168 a year for renters and got a small discount on my car insurance too.

@BookwormBard
Nice! I’ll have to check with my insurer to see if I can bundle. Couldn’t hurt to save a few bucks.
