Anyone else looking into pet insurance... thoughts?

So, I’ve been thinking about getting pet insurance for my dog, but not sure if it’s worth it… anyone else have it? What do you pay for it, and do you think it actually helps with vet bills?

I got pet insurance a couple of years ago after a $1,000 emergency vet bill… totally worth it, imo. I pay around $40/month, which covers most stuff.

Wow, $1,000! Yeah, that’s what I’m trying to avoid. Do they cover all emergencies?

@Peyton
Pretty much, yeah. Though some policies don’t cover pre-existing conditions, so watch out for that.

I thought about it but didn’t get it. My vet bills haven’t been too bad, and I figure I can just pay as I go. IDK if insurance would save me that much.

Same. I think I’m more worried about it being too expensive for what I’d get out of it.

@Val
Exactly. I saw some plans were over $70/month, which seems like a lot unless you’re constantly at the vet.

@Val
Wait, $70?! That’s way higher than I thought… Is that typical?

Depends on your pet, honestly. Bigger pets or older ones can drive up the cost.

For me, I skipped insurance ‘cause my dog is pretty healthy, and I don’t think I’d use it much. I’ll just pay with savings if anything happens.

Yeah, I’ve heard a lot of people say they skip it because their pets are healthy. I guess it depends on the situation?

Exactly. I’d rather just save up for emergencies instead of paying a monthly fee. But if your pet has health issues, it could be worth it.

I’ve been using Lemonade for my two cats, and it’s been good. I pay around $30/month for both. I haven’t had any major emergencies yet, but it covers routine stuff like checkups.

That’s good to know. I might check out Lemonade… seems like a decent price for two pets!

I’ve heard pet insurance is a scam… anyone else feel that way? Seems like they don’t really pay out when you need it.

IDK, I’ve used it a couple of times, and they paid out fine. You just have to read the policy closely to know what’s covered.

@Ezri
Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Maybe I’m just being paranoid lol.
